A UNESSO protected world heritage site and for good reason. Located on the Mediterranean coast between Montpellier and Marseille, these flat wetlands are home to the iconic pink flamingoes and white horses. The town of Saintes Maries de La Mer and Aiguës Mortes are steeped in history related to Mary Magdelen and Saint Sarah and there is an international Gitan festival, bringing together travellers from all over Europe to celebrate in their unique culture. The environment also lends itself to rice fields produced in small quantity but famous all over France. Their 'vin des sables' - a rosé wine is also part of this open skied lands.
